MURAI - THE RIGHT TO PERFORM

Name: Murai - the right to perform
Location: Tamil Nadu - India - Asia

In 2010 we start the Paramparai Foundation, founded by Saskia Kersenboom, wich is a new partnership in the huge India. The project Murai - the right to Perform focuses on research and development of music and dance of the members of the community of Melakkarar within the Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu temple dances.

For Theatre Embassy, this project is very special because it is primarily through an ancient dance form the sensuality shows the woman as intended and thus a counterpart to form against the strong commercial and exotic showcased sexuality (not only Tantra sex but including prostitution and trafficking in women). Murai can serve as a figurehead for the cultural significance of erotic way to bring image and performance. In this way, an important issue through a gender-based cultural project further.

Sara Kersenboom will write both Dutch and English on her blog about her experiences in the project Murai.
